Mr Thomas Allinson

The wholemeal revolutionary

Mr. Thomas Allinson was a man of conviction. Although he may not be as well known as some of his fellow Victorians such as Darwin or Edison, his views were truly visionary. A fervent believer in the benefits of wholemeal, he championed the virtues of healthy eating at a time when these views were still considered rather unorthodox.

  • A BAKER WITH VISION

Having stated in the popular press of the day, “A man is what he eats” Thomas insisted on using only the best ingredients to bake his bread. So with typical Victorian vigour he bought his own flour mill and created the pure whole grain flour that’s at the heart of an Allinson wholemeal loaf.

While much has changed over the years, Allinson wholemeal bread still contains the whole grain, still has no artificial preservatives and is still the mainstay of a nutritious diet. In fact, Mr. Allinson’s spirit for healthy eating lives on in everything we bake.

Food for thought

A rather outspoken fellow, Mr. Allinson was never shy of extolling the virtues of leading a healthy
lifestyle. While deemed rather unusual in his day – many of his views are now widely held beliefs.
